Firearms Safety/Self-Defense/Legality/Permit-to-Carry Course, Sunday, July 25th

This course was offered to Club members for the last three years. We received quite favorable feedback, so it has returned.

How many of us have a firearm in our home for protection? Plenty. Now, how many of us have had certified training on legalities of using force to protect ourselves and families when threatened by a predator. Darn few. That’s why we offer this course.

Topics covered will be legalities of using force, or threatening to use it, in self-defense, so law enforcement recognizes you’re actions as justifiable rather than criminal; actions you must take and must not take before and after a defensive gun use if you want to stay out of prison; legalities of possessing defensive firearms in your home, business, and during travel by land and air; discovering or getting re-acquainted with sound handgun shooting fundamentals; great big dose of safety and hands-on instruction on handling, loading, unloading, shooting and clearing of both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols; immediate action drills for clearing stoppages; handgun types that help vs. hinder your struggle for survival during a defensive gun use; the most effective ammunition products for self-defense; live-fire drills; safe carry and concealment methods; personal protection tactics; and defensive shooting accuracy … skills you need to competently serve as your own first-responder while protecting yourself and loved ones before law enforcement can arrive on the scene.

Upon your successful completion of the course, you will be provided a document attesting your graduation from the training required to apply for a permit-to-carry a concealed weapon from the state of Utah. Your Utah permit will be valid for lawful carry in 28 states: AK, AL, AR, AZ, DE, GA, ID, IN, KY, LA, MN, MS, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, OH, OK, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WY. This training is also valid for permit applications to FL, NH, ME, and CT.

The Utah-certified instructor is Michael Bender. Michael holds a number of personal-defense certifications as listed on the Personal Protection Academy website: www.PPA-WI.com.

This is a one-day course, 8:30-5:00, Sunday, July 25th, conducted in the Pistol Range Building. Bring a sack lunch, your handgun, 50 rounds of range ammunition (FMJ is OK), and eye and ear protection.

If you don’t own a handgun, please don't purchase something prior to class as equipment suited for self-defense is a major topic in this course. Simply let Michael know during your registration that you would like to borrow a firearm for the day.

Standard tuition for this course is $200. But Personal Protection Academy is reducing tuition to $165 for those pre-registering by June 15. $25 of that will be collected in cash on the day of class and will go to The Club.

To register or for more info contact Michael or Jenifer Bender at Personal Protection Academy: toll-free, (888) 657-4668. Participation will be limited to 40 members (and it is for SCC Members ONLY).

The Pistol Range building will be closed 8:30am-5:00pm Sunday, July 25th.

Rules & Procedures

These are the current rules and procedures for the Stoughton Conservation Club. Members are responsible for knowing them. Violations of rules and procedures is grounds for disciplinary action, which can range from warnings to expulsion for life. Ignorance of the rules is not a defense. Above all, our rules and procedures were created to foster safety. UNSAFE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED, and just because it is not stated in our Rules and Procedures does not mean it is not unsafe behavior. Use common sense and common courtesy.

Note to other clubs: we created this latest revision of the rules from our own rules and from those of other clubs posted on the Internet. It is in that spirit that we post our rules here. If you are another club and wish to use any part of our rules and procedures, please feel free. If you have any questions about them or wish a copy of them in another format, click on "Contact Us" in the navbar on the left side of the Homepage and let us know how we can help.
