Centerfire Pistol

Technically, “Bullseye” is a nickname, and the true name of this style of competition is NRA Conventional Pistol Competition. Whatever you choose to call it, Bullseye shooting is the best way to learn how to shoot a pistol well. SCC offers two pistol leagues. Whereas true NRA Conventional Pistol Competition uses both .22s and centerfires in the same match, we have traditionally run these in two different leagues. .22 is NRA qualified, following all the rules. Centerfire is a bit more difficult, so we forgoe the NRA rules in one or two aspects of the league.

Centerfire Pistol League is also on Thursday nights, starting the first Thursday in September. Any centerfire pistol .32 or over is eligible, revolver or semi-automatic. Course of fire is a National Match Course: 10 shots Slow Fire (in 10 minutes), 10 shots Timed Fire (two strings of five shots, 20 seconds each) and 10 shot Rapid Fire (two strings of five shots, 10 seconds each). Since Cneterfire Pistols tend to be more difficult to master, this league does not stick to NRA approved rules and Rapid Fire may be fired using two hands. At end of the league, the entire group will be divided into four equal classes, so people have no idea what class they're in until Awards Night. The top four scorers in each class receive awards, plus Most Improved (from the first half to the second half) and Top Gun. The league shoots for 10 weeks, with your worst two scores thrown out. Cost is $45 for the league and includes targets, the Awards Night/Fun Night party (free refreshments) and awards. The range of skill in the league is quite broad, and no one every made fun of anyone for their ability, except between friends. In fact, all the better shots are more than willing to coach you if you want.
