Sight-In Clinic

SCC always hosts a Hunter's Sight-In Clinic in November. It usually happens on the first weekend of November (for the early season hunters) and then the whole second week of November. This is one of the largest fund raisers for The Club and the funds go to Club Operations. That means Sight-In helps keep dues down.

Sight-In is open to the public. Cost is $5 per gun, per person and is subject to change. Club members are available with equipment, tools and coaching, to get hunters zeroed in for Deer Season. This also means Club Members are needed as volunteers. Of course, the ranges will be closed to general usage during Sight-In. Check for the Contact and phone number in your newsletter.

A note to members: We know this can be an inconvenience if you didn’t remember to site in your deer rifle the other 357 days of the year, so make a note of it. As we said, the Sight-In Clinic helps us keep dues low, and everyone appreciates that. It is also a help to the community, and we have been doing Sight-In Clinics since anyone can remember. And you can always come down and pay $5, which is still darn cheap.

Scholarship

Stoughton Conservation Club gives out scholarships to deserving children of Club members. A big “thank you” goes out to the membership who attend the Scholarship Banquet and make it a success. Without your support, the scholarship program would not continue, let alone achieve the success it has.

As of 2006, we’ve given out over 40 scholarships to Children of Club members. The annual banquet where these scholarships are awarded is usually held in early August. Along with the excellent meal and awarding of scholarships, attendees are usually treated to raffle prizes that range from fine art prints to firearms to cash (always the perfect gift) to decoys to stunning hand-made quilts. There is always something for everyone to lust after.

A good segue to a huge “Thank You” to the people who donate the raffle prizes. As always on The Web, we’ll leave names off, but these are included in your Newsletter. So look, read and don’t forget to patronize the establishments of these fine folks.

Applications for scholarships is May 1st every year, so put it on your calendar. To be eligible, you need only be the college-bound child of a member in good standing in The Club. If you’re looking for applications, they’re linked here as a (PDF).

Ice Fisheree

Stoughton Conservation Club has been hosting a Winter Ice Fisheree for about 45 years, now. Traditionally, it’s the third Sunday in January, and it’s held on a frozen Lake Kegonsa. (Storm date is usually the next Sunday.) Last few years, there’s been a lot of warm weather, so it’s been touch and go. Luckily, it’s always gone on, but keep an ear tuned for whatever.

We ask members to support this project by either purchasing these tickets or by selling them to someone else. For more information or additional tickets, call the contact in the Newsletter or any of the Board of Directors.

Kid's Fisheree

In the beginning of Summer, SCC always put on The Kid’s Fisheree. It’s basically a fishing contect for kids, and includes a lot of great prizes for almost all of them. It’s usually held on the third Saturday in June 22rd with a rain date of the following Saturday. Kids up to 14 years old can join in on the fun (and LOTS OF PRIZES)!

All entrants are divided into four age classes, and each class will be awarded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize each for the biggest Pan fish, Rough fish and Game fish. (That’s a lot of prizes!)

1st place awards are rods and reels, 2nd place awards are tackle boxes, and 3rd place awards are fish nets or baskets. Registration opens at Division Street Park (near the Forton Street bridge) at 8:30 am, fishing from 9 to Noon. We usually run everything CATCH & RELEASE, so make sure your kids have a nice big bucket so their fish can swim in some water until they’re weighed and released. Final weigh-in is the Noon ending time. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded by 12:30.
